The working principle of a 3D force sensor

The 3D force sensor is based on the principle of resistance strain gauges, utilizing a resistive strain-type sensing element—also known as a strain-gauge 3D force sensor. It consists of an elastic component, resistance strain gauges, and a Wheatstone bridge circuit.

A strain gauge is the sensitive element used to fabricate sensors that measure various physical quantities. When attached to the elastic component of a three-dimensional force sensor, it becomes the strain-resistance conversion element—this is the core component of a weighing sensor. The force exerted by the object being weighed deforms the elastic element, causing strain. The strain gauge bonded to the elastic component then converts this strain, which is proportional to the object's weight, into a corresponding change in electrical resistance. Finally, a Wheatstone bridge circuit transforms this resistance change into a voltage output, which is displayed on an instrument, thereby completing the measurement task.
