Compared to single-axis force sensors, 2D force sensors not only need to address the monotonicity and consistency issues related to sensitivity for the measured force components, but also tackle inter-axis (cross-axis) interference caused by structural fabrication and process errors, as well as challenges in static and dynamic calibration. Additionally, they require solutions for decoupling algorithms and circuit implementations used in vector calculations. We have thoroughly resolved key scientific challenges in 2D force sensor research, such as the structural design of elastic elements, mechanical performance evaluation, and advanced vector decoupling algorithms. Moreover, we have mastered the core manufacturing technologies and now possess the capability to design and fabricate devices ranging from macro-scale mechanics to micro-mechanical systems.

A 2D force sensor refers to a type of force sensor capable of simultaneously measuring torque components in three directions. In the Cartesian coordinate system, both forces and torques can be individually resolved into three components. This kind of sensor is designed to measure three force components and three torque components at the same time. Currently, the multi-dimensional force sensors widely used today are precisely this type of sensor.

A 2D force sensor can detect changes in force values along the X, Y, and Z axes, outputting three sets of voltage signals. A multi-axis force sensor, on the other hand, is capable of simultaneously measuring force and torque components in two or more directions. It is widely used in applications such as robotic fingertips and grippers, robotic surgical research, finger-force studies, dental research, force feedback systems, brake testing, precision assembly and machining, rehabilitation studies, plastic surgery research, product testing, haptic feedback, and teaching-learning processes. This technology spans across industries including robotics, automotive manufacturing, automated production line assembly, biomechanics, aerospace, and light textile industries.
